Through my time on The Echo I’ve only ever really been sure of one thing, and it was not how to do layout. It was that it was probably the most valuable class I ever took.

Being print editor wasn’t exactly my choice. I’d never thought of myself as a creative or artsy person, and I wasn’t sure I could live up to Izzy Poole’s, last year’s print editor, bar. (Izzy please come back I miss you.) However, I slowly gained confidence, and even though I’d rather only have to focus on my podcast, I have genuinely come to enjoy my role as print editor.

After missing out on a year of high school, The Echo forced me to get out of my comfort zone with doing interviews, learning how to use Adobe Suite and how to use a camera. I probably could’ve stayed content avoiding these things at all costs, but in the end they’ve made me a more rounded person.

Donald Johnson, our amazing advisor, has always made sure to make everyone on staff feel appreciated, even when we struggle to sell ads and get our stories in on time. When I felt like giving up, I knew I wouldn’t if not for my sake, Johnson’s sake.

I’d like to formally apologize to him for my new found inability to spell and use commas as well as always placing the church ad in the silliest place. I also want to thank him for providing a safe place that I’ve always been able to be myself in (including lying on the floor).

Of course The Echo would not be The Echo without our staff. I’ve enjoyed working with all of them over the years, even during photo credit-gate, pyramid-gate, ins and outs-gate and of course exorcism-gate.

I’d like to thank my fellow seniors Hadley Hoskins, Soledad Lee and Margaret Oliphant. Working with you all this year has been fun, even if it was stressful at times. I know that through the Echo I’ve formed some hopefully life long friendships (if layout week for this issue doesn’t end them.)

As for Ali Schultz, Arianna Peper, Margaret Korte and Jasper Winterton, you are all incredible journalists, and I can’t wait to see what you do next year. Thank you for all of your hard work this year.

I also want to thank Latin teacher Jeff Smith for always letting me interrupt his class to interview people and curl my eyelashes. It’s been greatly appreciated over the last two years.

Lastly, thank you to my grandma, my only loyal podcast listener. As always this is Sam Klein for Voices of Webster, signing off.
