Echo publications earned ratings from National Scholastic Press Association for its print publication and Quill and Scroll for its comprehensive news multimedia platforms.
NSPA awarded the staff a First Class rating with two Marks of Distinction for Coverage and Content and Visuals, and Quill and Scroll awarded the staff a First Place International rating.
The NSPA judge said, “It is clear that The Echo staff knows what their readers are interested in, from school-based news to localized national stories, along with popular topics and trends. I’m impressed that you covered everything from school policy, to legal issues, to LGBTQIA+ discrimination protest, to sexual assault consequences… and so much more.”
The NSPA judge also noted, “Your social media reporting is your best-kept secret (especially to those of us who don’t attend your school). The extra photos on Instagram, the focus on sports coverage on X… just a couple of examples of how you are reaching readers where they are most often.”
The Quill and Scroll judge said, “You have much to be proud of in your work. Most significantly, you’re not afraid to tackle tough stories, and you do so with consistency. You demonstrate the tenacity needed to find information, ask questions and keep following the story even when it’s difficult. Your work is a testament to the power and importance of student voices and scholastic journalism.”
