TV show “Psych”  delivered  a show full of laughs and compelling characters from 2006-2014, as it achieved its goals of being fun and enjoyable.

“Psych” is a crime-comedy created by Steve Franks (“Big Daddy,”) and it follows a fake psychic detective Shawn Spencer, played by James Roday Rodriguez (“A Million Little Things”), using his powers of observation. With his best friend Burton Gus, played by Dule Hill (The Wonder Years” 2021), they become psychic consultants with the Santa Barbara police, relying on help from Shawn’s father Henry played by Corbin Bernsen (“Major League).

Shawn and Gus solve cases before robot-like head detective Carlton Lassiter, played by Timothy Omundson (“Galavant”), and Shawn’s love interest sweet-but-tough Juliet O’Hara, played by Maggie Lawson (“Model Behavior”).

“Psych” is often compared to the “Mentalist” because it is a fake psychic helping the police to solve cases. “Psych” even makes fun of itself sometimes for the similarity. The difference is in the tone of the shows. “Psych” is much more a comedy, and “The Mentalist” Is a drama. “Psych” feels like a comedy show first and then a crime show as most crime shows seem to put the crime first. Sometimes when watching, it’s easy to forget about the crime in the show.

“Psych” is comedy at its finest. The show has perfect joke timing and is always delivered perfectly by the cast. “Psych” is great at being a comedy but can use drama when it needs to, and it can balance out it very well.

“Psych’s” cast has great chemistry with the show’s main duo Shawn and Gus because of the Rodriguez’s and Hill’s chemistry. The two make one of the best friendships on TV. The father and son relationship between Shawn and Henry develops as they go from a messed up family, to becoming a typical father and son.

“Psych” is rated PG, and children could watch it if they wanted to.

“Psych” won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Cable TV Comedy in 2014. The show is free on Peacock and Amazon Prime. “Psych” has a total of eight seasons and two movies with a third to be released on Nov.18, on Peacock.
