Assistant principal John E. Thomas has received a St. Louis American Foundation Excellence in Education Award at the St. Louis American Foundation’s 33rd Annual Salute to Excellence in Education on Scholarship and Awards Virtual Gala.

This award was given to Thomas because of the dedication to education and leadership in the classroom and community he has given. The foundation is giving out $1.86 million in scholarships and grants this year for area youth and educators.

Communications director Cathy Vespereny said, “The St. Louis American is one of the few newspapers in the country with its own 501(c)3 foundation, the St. Louis American Foundation. Founded in 1994, the foundation is dedicated to enabling the African-American community to increase its access to careers in Business, the Sciences and the Humanities.”

This event was celebrated on Oct. 17, at 7 p.m, at the St. Louis homepage, Facebook and YouTube channel.
