Freddie Mercury was a maestro, making doubters bite the dust while rocking his way to being a champion until his final breath. “Bohemian Rhapsody” depicts his infinite legacy as per the phrase “fearless lives forever.”

The movie focuses on the rise, fall and return of singer Freddie Mercury throughout his career. Through the band’s rise to international fame and touring, to the less often heard private life of one of the world’s greatest rockstars ever, “Bohemian Rhapsody” captures the blend of stardom and social chaos that led to Mercury’s untimely death in 1991, all while paying tribute to the devoted artist Mercury really was.

With timely issues present like sexual orientation and identity crisis, Mercury, as portrayed by “Mr. Robot” actor, Rami Malek, grapples with himself over the course of the film. Between toxic relationships and an addiction to drugs and alcohol, the film reveals the true life of a rockstar backstage.

However, “Bohemian Rhapsody” doesn’t fail to capture the most iconic and grandstanding moments of the singer’s life. Whether it be “We Will Rock You” or title-feature “Bohemian Rhapsody,” the musical performances are a mix of intelligent audio mixing and lively on-screen performance as Malek never sings a line throughout the movie; rather, isolated recordings of Freddie are utilized to further authenticate the film.

Most impressively, the shot-for-shot recreation of the band’s historic performance at the 1985 Live Aid concert represents the level of dedication and attention to detail put forth by the entire production. Each movement was carefully illustrated by the cast and the scene makes for a jaw-dropping finale.

The film was perfectly cast and envisioned by director Bryan Singer with Malek’s stunning performance wowing audiences with his authentic appearance and replication of the actor’s controversial and beloved personality. A biopic with it’s own entirely unique sound and story, “Bohemian Rhapsody” is a chance to indulge into the mythos of Queen for fans of all kinds.

Bohemian Rhapsody is rated PG-13 and runs around 133 minutes.
