Drama to present ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’
Auditions for the fall play “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” will be May 14-16, in the drama room.
After junior Sam Toskin wrote the grant proposal, the drama department was one of two high schools awarded a grant which gives the rights and waives royalties for the production of the play.
Seniors collect supplies for refugees
Deborah Bohlmann’s Contemporary Literature classes are collecting items for refugees and internally displaced people through May 20.
Specifically, the classes are collecting toiletries to help the refugees coming to America who have little money and resources.
The groups have bags in every English classroom for students’ donations.
The project is in conjunction with the classes’ reading of “The Kite Runner,” which relates to refugees.
ECHO staffers receive recognition in Quill and Scroll contest
Quill and Scroll announced the winners of its Writing, Photo and Multimedia Contest.
Senior Caroline Fellows won first place in the review column category for “Dog movie will bring viewers to tears-multiple times.” Senior Riley Mullgardt placed third in the review column category for “Singer/songwriter’s 3rd album pulls heart strings.”
Fellows and junior Sean Mullins received an honorable mention for “Solar Eclipse Diamond Ring” and “Electric Retrospective – Playtime’s Over: The Rise and Fall of Toys to Life,” respectively.
NCADA present vaping information for parents
National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse met with parents at 7 p.m. on April 5, at Hixson.
NCADA presented information on vaping, its potential risks and talking to their children about vaping.
Community reelects Gerry Welch as mayor
Webster Groves voters elected incumbent Gerry Welch as mayor with 59 percent of the vote on April 3. Mayoral candidate Ken Burns received 41 percent .
Citizens elected Laura Arnold with 28 percent, Pamela Bliss with 24 percent and David Franklin with 17 percent for the city council.
Students elect 2018-19 student council officers
Students elected the 2018-19 student council officers: junior Evelyn Trampe as president, junior Ellie Oliphant as vice president, junior Skyler Jones as secretary, freshman Caroline Gillow as historian, junior Ali Kuskowski as public relations officer and junior Philip Freeman as treasurer.
The election was March 29, during sixth period.
