Gracie Giles, senior, plans to attend The School of the Art Institute in Chicago starting in the fall to pursue her passion in art.
Giles has been drawing her entire life but started taking her art more seriously around the age of 14.
About why she started using art to express herself, Giles said, “The reason I create art is to gain a deeper understanding of myself and the people around me.”
Giles also shared her inspiration for her art pieces.
“My biggest inspiration comes from my personal experiences. I reflect on key moments in my life and express what I feel through painting. It can be very therapeutic,” Giles said.
Giles also shared that art teacher Jocelyn Reiss has been her biggest supporter at the high school throughout her artistic journey.
“She is always encouraging her students and has helped me in so many ways throughout my art journey over the past couple of years. I can truly tell she cares about my opinions and makes sure I have what I need to create,” Giles said.
