Friendship Dance, a collaborative effort between Webster Groves and Kirkwood, is set to take place at Kirkwood High School on Nov. 2, at 7 p.m.
Webster Groves High School’s activities director Chris Johnson, assistant activities director Corey Toenjes and Student Council sponsor Lana Harter have shared the initial planning process. The process began late September and lasts through the whole month of October.
Johnson said, “Two to three weeks ago we got in touch with Kirkwood and started working through the dates, the times and locations, making sure we are all on the same page. Talking about ticket pricing, when we are going to start tickets on sale.”
Ticket prices for the event are placed at $12 per person and will be available for purchase from Oct. 21 to Oct. 31, online only. After Oct. 31, prices will be raised to $30.
The Friendship Dance is a semi-formal dance, and students should wear semi-formal attire. Toenjes said, “If a student or guest is not within the dress code they will be asked to change before being admitted to the dance.”
A benefit of the combined dance with Kirkwood that has been shared by the Friendship Dance committee is continuing the tradition. Toenjes said he believes that sharing the dance with Kirkwood is what sets these schools apart from every other school. He said, “How many other schools have a joined dance with their cross-town rival?”
Harter said that the event is primarily run by the students, whether that’s coming up with a theme, doing the shopping for decorations or making the music playlist for the dance event.
