For most of my life I have looked forward to leaving. Leaving school, and leaving home. However as I sit here writing this, I can’t help but feel a little bittersweet.
Although I look forward to my next step, and every step afterward, leaving the familiarity of the place my family and I have lived for my whole life, I realize how thankful I am for the people here who have pushed me forward, kept me smiling, and made me look forward to coming to school.
Thank you to Donald Johnson, for encouraging me to expand my voice as a writer and giving me resources.
Thank you to Westly Redstone for helping with Webster Tackles Cancer and allowing my friends to invade your classroom and for all your help.
Thank you to the theater department for giving me something to do after school.
Thank you to Eric Dunn and Tim Levine for believing in me and working on math with me and for letting me invade your room during plan periods to help me understand, as well as to Colleen Flickenger for knowing my intelligence and always caring for me.
Thank you to the upperclassmen who befriended me and took me under your wing. Thank you to all the friends I’ve made in classes, sat with, laughed with, listened to music with, copied off of, and made me look forward to coming to school. Thank you to everyone in Webster Tackles Cancer.
Thank you to everyone who touched my life and taught me lessons in things I could not learn from a Smartboard.
Throughout my 18 years of living in Webster, I have made friends that have and will continue to last a lifetime. I’d like to give a special thank you to my closest friends, seniors Layla Salmon who’s been with my since first grade, Jae Ryan, who inspired me and encouraged me to become a better writer, to Rose Mossinghoff, who is one of the smartest, most compassionate people I have ever met, Kaitlyn Patten for showing strength and kindness where others could not find it.
Lastly, thank you to the Echo, for helping me realize my passion for things I never would have realized I love, like videography and nonfiction writing. The things I learned from this school, memories I made and friendships forged. Nothing will be forgotten.
