Senior Jack Vedova plans to study engineering at Washington University.
Band director Kevin Cole has worked with Vedova since sixth grade.
“When Jack is at a (band) event, it legitimizes the event for us. It’s almost like all the other kids say, ‘Oh this is gonna be fun because Jack Vedova is here,’ Jack embodies a whole bunch of things that make that important,” Cole said.
“When we were talking about leadership, I thought about the fact that I have never once heard him complain about doing an event. I appreciate that very much from Jack. He’s obviously a tremendous musician and student so that needs to be said too,” Cole said.
About his major accomplishments throughout high school, Vedova said, “I think a big one for me was my ACT score. I took it three times, and my score improved every time.”
“I think in college I will be a part of a concert band or a jazz band. I’ll probably play trumpet for a little while, but I really want to focus on the guitar. It doesn’t make sense for me to ditch the trumpet considering how much time I have put into it, but I want to branch out and put work into something new.”
Vedova said, “In high school, I think, you need to focus on having fun and making connections with people. I was so worried about my grades and what college I was gonna get into and stuff, and while that’s important, I think you need to spend your time well and actually learn about social environments. Go to football games. Play sports. Do stuff. It always seems like the people who are uninvolved have the worst experience.”
