Eagle Award Nominee: Cross Country runner to study Chemistry

“I feel like I want to know everything,” senior Tessa Garrison said.

Garrison has always had a love for school and drive to know everything, but this was amplified in high school due to the staff and freedom to pick her classes.

“I think it’s important to know where you’re going in life because it’s hard to be happy in life without it,” Garrison said.

Garrison plans to study chemistry and German, and plans to eventually get a doctorate in chemistry and potentially be a professor and do research in the field.

“Tessa is one of the best all around students I’ve ever taught. She’s really brilliant, but she’s also kind, and she’s also involved,” German teacher Brent Mackey said about Garrison.

Mackey has directly worked with Garrison throughout her high school career through the German/American exchange program, German National Honors Society as well as having her in class for two years.

“I feel like in class she has a consistently positive attitude and great work ethic,” chemistry teacher Jane Knitting said.

Knitting had Garrison in class her senior and junior year, as well as having her in Scholar Bowl. Knitting has noticed her consistent work ethic and willingness to help others in class.

Knitting also notes how Garrison won the Scholar Mile in November, where she ran a mile while answering trivia questions.

Garrison has participated in cross country, track, gardening club, German National Honors Society, student council, Scholar Bowl, as well as being a National Merit Semifinalist and receiving a Top Hat Award her sophomore year

Next year, Garrison will attend the University of Tulsa. She plans to double major in chemistry and German.
