Viewers of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” tuned in each week starting July. 14 for season two. Each episode brought anticipation of who the main character, Belly (Lola Tung) would end up with.

The show continued to divide viewers. According to an Instagram poll by @wgecho, 74 percent voted Team Conrad and 26 percent voted Team Jeremiah.

It is safe to say that season one of the show was lighthearted, but season two took an emotional toll on viewers.

“The last episode made me really sad. I loved Conrad’s sassiness in it, but it did hurt my Conrad heart,” sophomore El Markham said.

Season two begins with a peek into Belly’s dreams where she and Conrad (Christopher Briney) are together and Susannah (Rachel Blanchard) is alive. Viewers are informed when she awakes from her dream, that everything is the opposite.

The show is based on the books by Jenny Han. Those are, “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” and “It’s Not Summer Without You” and “We’ll Always Have Summer.”

Student viewers who are Team Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) say one of the reasons is because of his looks.

“He’s so cute, and he’s very nice, and I think that he’s the best for Belly,” senior Sam Murdock said.

“Come on, it’s obvious; he’s cute. He also treats her better,” senior Elizabeth Williams said.

While others can disagree, finding Jeremiah’s feelings only sparked for her because of her glow up and thinking he is unlikeable, believing Conrad is the better choice for Belly.

“Jeremiah only started liking Belly when she turned pretty. Conrad and Belly have had a thing the whole time,” senior Charlotte Collier said.

“I think he’s better. I think he’s better looking too, he’s a little sassy, but it just adds to the plot and I think that he just likes Belly more. I think that Jeremiah only likes her cause she had a glow up,” junior Piper Westendorf said.

“I am a strong Team Conrad person. I feel like for Belly it’s always been Conrad for her and I feel like it should always be that way, I also feel like the chemistry in season 2, like the flashbacks especially, they’re very cute together,” Markham said.

In an interview last year, for the article, ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ divides viewers,’ senior Josh Delay said, “I know it’s a hot take, but like, I find him [Jeremiah] comforting.”

After watching season 2, Delay’s opinion changed.

Delay said, “I’m Team Conrad actually; I switched sides. He’s like a poet I feel like, and his face is so concentrated and majestic. Jeremiah looks scary.”

One viewer had a simple answer to why she is Team Conrad.

“He’s complicated and hot,” senior Rebecca Fairbanks said.

Besides Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah, there are people who are Team Belly. For seniors Brandon Parikh and Simon Lang, it is quite the opposite.

Parikh said, “I’m anti Belly, she causes too much drama in the whole thing and she plays the brothers.”

“Yeah, I just hate Belly so much, she’s basically just a terrible person and she only cares about herself,” Lang said.

Senior Frances Baken reflected on not who Belly is perfect with, but Belly’s best friend Taylor (Rain Spencer). In season 2, viewers got to see feelings mutually develop between Taylor and Steven.

“I’m Team Steven [for Taylor] because he is the silliest one; he’s just so good with Taylor. She’s been in love with him for her whole life. And now he’s finally realizing that she’s so beautiful and he’s goofy with her, but he’s still sensitive,” Baken said.
