In a press release sent out to students, parents and staff, principal Dr. Matt Irvin announced the annual Friendship Dance will continue to be held jointly with Kirkwood High School.
The press release detailed the results of a survey, which all students were asked to fill out in their advisory classes on Sept. 21.
“The data we have collected has been mixed. In conversation, students shared thoughtful rationale on traditional practices and on making a split with Kirkwood. In our survey results, a similar split emerged,” the press release read.
While the exact results of this year’s survey have not been released, a similar survey was conducted last year, which resulted in 49% of students in favor of a WGHS event, and 47% of students preferring a traditional Friendship dance. A similar announcement cited a lack of a clear consensus as a reason for continuing to hold the dance with Kirkwood.
This year, Webster will host the Friendship dance. It is currently scheduled for Nov. 4, at 7 p.m.
