Just a few minutes from the University of Arkansas, in Fayetteville, AR, is Gusano’s Pizza.
Offering a variety of pizza styles, from Chicago-Style deep dish to traditional thin crust, Gusano’s is a great spot for college students with a few extra dollars in their pocket.
Despite a busy Saturday night for Gusano’s, the staff still managed to prepare an online order of a large salad ($8.99), a 9” Chicago-style pizza ($17.49), and a 10” traditional crust pizza ($14.99) within 30 minutes. While this particular order was take out and not eaten in the restaurant, the brief moments inside the restaurant were pleasant, as Gusano’s display a wide array of Arkansas’ sports memorabilia.
The pizza itself, traditional crust with pepperoni and sausage, and a Chicago-style with pepperoni, was satisfactory to say the least. The crust, while a bit firm and crunchy on both pizzas held the contents very well, which is good as they are the strongest parts of the pizza.
The meat was nicely seasoned, and cooked to perfection. The cheese, a blend of many traditional pizza cheeses, was melty and delicious. The tomato sauce was also a nice blend of sweet and savory, which is beneficial to the Chicago-style pizza, as it resembled a tomato, cheese, and pepperoni soup in a crust bowl.
The salad was also nothing short of what one would hope for from a pizzeria of Gusano’s caliber. The salad is nothing special when it comes to the actual vegetables, cheese, and meat inside, but this salad finds success in the dressing, as Gusano’s has a bountiful supply of delicious house made, runny and creamy ranch.
