While the activities directors at Kirkwood and at Webster Groves High Schools are in active communication with each other about the Friendship Dance, the student councils at both schools are not.
“Webster has not been communicating with Kirkwood STUCO about the dance or theme. I don’t know what the theme is,” student council president Rebecca Fairbanks said.
In addition, Fairbanks explained that since Kirkwood is hosting the dance this year, it is in charge of all activities and the theme.
Brent Mackey, student council sponsor, said the activities directors are in communication with each other
Mackey said, “We communicate with them (Kirkwood activities director) regularly leading up to the dance. (Assistant activities director) Chris Johnson is the one that leads that.”
At the same time, students weigh their opinions about whether or not they are excited about the dance.
Junior Owen Barrs said, “I used to want Webster to have its own dance like last year, but I realized that we hadn’t gotten to experience this tradition before, so I didn’t know what it would be like as a joint dance. I’m excited to go to the dance at Kirkwood because I honestly just like being able to dress up and have fun with my friends.”
