Men’s Varsity basketball defeated Christ the King 64-45 at the Tournament of Champions on Thursday, Jan. 11. The game was played Thursday night at JQH Arena at Missouri State University.
Webster played well even though Christ the King had them outsized, having two players taller than senior power forward Carte’Are Gordon, Webster’s tallest player.
Senior Courtney Ramey led Webster with 20 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Gordon scored 18 points, had five rebounds and blocked two shots. Junior Ray Adams scored nine points, and sophomore Jacobie Banks had six points.
Despite winning, Webster struggled in the first half. Two minutes into the game, Ramey already had two fouls. Gordon had to face Christ the King’s junior Kofi Cockburn and freshman Moussa Cisse, both 6’11″, played a fantastic defense, blocking shots and layups. Having four inches on Gordon, Cisse blocked what looked like a wide-open dunk in the third quarter. Cisse finished the game with a total of nine blocked shots.
Webster goes on to play Oak Hill Academy in the semifinals on Friday, Jan. 12.
