Eagle Award winner Emma Patneau, senior, plans to study aerospace engineering and physics at Purdue University.
Purdue is located in West Lafayette, IN. According to U.S. News and World Report, Purdue has the third best engineering program in the country. It is ranked 38 in Physics.
“I’ve always loved math and science throughout school from elementary school up through high school. I also look up to my dad a lot, and he’s an aerospace engineer at Boeing, and the airplane aspect has always been a part of my life. I remember going to air shows with him as a little kid and museums, so he’s definitely inspired me a lot,” Patneau said about why she chose these majors.
She chose Purdue specifically because she has grown up watching Purdue basketball. “I have wanted to go to Purdue practically since I could walk,” Patneau added.
In addition to her school work, Patneau is also excited to rush in the fall and meet new people.
Patneau has also been involved here at the high school. She has been in Student Council all four years as a class representative, secretary and president.
Student Council sponsor Lana Harter had positive things to say about Patneau.
“To be honest, there has not been a single year of Emma’s high school career in which I have not seen her step up into a leadership role within WG Student Council. From the start of her ninth grade year, I could tell that she would be an involved student. Little did I know, four years later, she would be finishing her second year on the executive officer team and wrapping up her year as our president,” Harter said via the Eagle Award nomination.
Patneau has truly enjoyed her time on the Student Council and loved being involved in all the planning. She also loves the opportunities to give back to her community and plans to continue in college.
