Junior Jasper Winterton was recognized by Quill and Scroll, and junior Shane Delanty was recognized by St. Louis Public Radio.
Winterton won First Place in Feature Writing and Third Place in DEI, Social Justice Writing for “Students say schools should respond to sexual assault, harassment better” in Quill and Scroll’s Writing, Photo, and Multimedia Contest.
The judge said, “Winterton does a good job navigating a sensitive subject and getting first-hand accounts of what has gone on. You can tell there was a great deal of work put into this story and investigating what happened. Winterton clearly spoke with many sources to shape this piece. This is a great example of writing that could make a difference in the community.”
Also Delanty earned an Honorable Mention in the STLPR Photojournalist Contest for “The Call of Snow – Bella, our family dog, looks out to the snow on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2025, in Webster Groves, Mo.”
According to the St. Louis Public Radio website, “The STLPR Teen Photojournalist Prize provides professional recognition, publicity, encouragement, hands-on training and resources to area high school students who demonstrate a talent for documenting their world through photography.”
Winners will be showcased Tuesday, May 13, from 7 – 9 p.m. at St. Louis Public Radio.
