Senior Iziah Purvey was a nominee for the McDonald’s All American Honor Award.
Basketball players like Angel Reese and Kevin Durant were given this award in the past.
Purvey said, “Basketball has impacted my life a lot. I’ve been able to go places and meet people I never thought I would meet.”
Purvey continued, “My younger brothers motivate me to play basketball because they can watch me on TV and see me in person and tell other people.”
Purvey added, “It has made me realize that I can always go to the gym and just clear my mind and play basketball.”
Purvey said he has grown close to his teammates, and when thinking about a future without them, he said, “I feel very sad about leaving this team, especially the underclassman who I’ve taken under my wing. It hurts a lot.”
When it comes to something other than the sport itself, Purvey said his favorite things to do are, “Being with teammates, going out to eat with friends and playing video games.”
His favorite memory is, “Winning State my sophomore year because I won a ring, and not too many people in school can say they won a State championship.”
Purvey’s advice for future players is, “Stay consistent and trust the process; it will all come.”
Purvey will continue his basketball career at the University of Missouri St. Louis, and he will major in history in hopes of becoming a history teacher.
