First year Spanish teacher Miranda Forbes has always had a passion for Spanish culture, and she is ecstatic to be teaching the language this year.

Forbes attended Truman University where she studied for her masters in teaching.

Spanish teacher Lana Harter said, “She is amazing. She jumped straight in. Over the summer we worked with her for three solid days, and she is bringing new fresh ideas to the curriculum. She is also ready to dive into school spirit because she was one of the teachers who volunteered to sit in the dunk tank at the Selma Street Dance.”

Forbes said, ”I think one thing teaching has taught me is how each student brings something unique to the classroom, that helps to grow not only the community of learners but helps to enrich the lives of other students in the classroom.”

Forbes studied abroad in Spain, and this is where she decided to engage herself into teaching. In Spain she discovered what she wanted to do with her future because of how easy it was for her to learn more about Spanish culture by being immersed into the environment.

Forbes said, “It inspired me to begin teaching because I wanted students to get the same ‘wow’ moment for themselves when they’re immersed in the culture and can understand it through the lens of another language.”

Forbes works with a variety of different grade levels including her Spanish classes and advisory. Working with a variety of different levels, Forbes gets to understand the growth in learning throughout the grades.

Forbes said, “I don’t have many seniors in my classes. My classes are mainly freshman and sophomores, so it is very interesting to see students at the beginning of their high school experience, and then working with a group of seniors, it shows me that broad indictment.”

Forbes described teaching as a very pleasant experience and that it has been rewarding so far.

Gabi Merli, senior, via email said, “So far I like my new teacher. She has been really kind and fun during the little time that we have together during advisory. She seems to enjoy interacting with us which is great.”

Forbes admires that every day is something different and that everyone comes in with a positive attitude. Forbes added that Webster Groves is an exceptionally welcoming community.

Spanish teacher Jaime Adamski, via email said, “I think Ms. Forbes is perfect for WGHS; like Cinderella’s glass slipper, the shoe just fits. She is acclimating incredibly well not only to our department’s antics but also the Statesmen climate. She brings fresh energy and ideas to language instruction and shows tremendous enthusiasm for working with students.”
