News Briefs: Statesman Showcase and Veterans Day Assembly

High school invites community to Statesman Showcase

Webster a cappella groups A-men and A-ladies performed Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017, at the Webster Community Open House.

WGHS Statesmen Showcase will be Sunday, Nov. 3, from 1 p.m to 3 p.m.

Families, community members, and prospective students are invited to come tour the high school and see all it offers, such as journalism, the STEP team, dance team, cheer, jazz combo, flute choir, and drum line.

The event is more student centered this year than it has been in the past, and students have volunteered to help or participate.

There will be Broadway Karaoke in the auditorium at 1:30 p.m. and an a cappella performance at 2:30 p.m. at Senior Entrance.

A class from each core department will showwhat learning may look like on a typical day. Language classes, business, THRIVE, Chelsea Center, fine arts and makerspace will all have representatives as well.

Veterans will be honored at an assembly Nov. 7, from 8-10 a.m. in the auditorium.

The orchestra, band, choir and flag corps students will perform, and there will be several speakers. The assembly will honor and thank veterans as well as educate students about military experiences.

“This year we are looking at African Americans in the service and will look at the Congressional Medal of Honor and several of its recipients,” Pat Voss said via email.
