Echo staffers earn Quill and Scroll honors
Three Echo staffers earned Quill and Scroll honors in two categories last week in its 2019 Quill and Scroll International Writing, Photo and Multimedia Contest.
Senior Sean Mullins won second place in Blogging for his Electric Retrospective, and sophomore Maeve Taylor and junior Lindsey Bennett won second place for Audio Podcast: Series for their Voices of Webster podcasts about teaching styles.
Students from five countries submitted 2,486 entries over all 30 categories, and judges chose 268 winning entries produced by 319 students, or National Winners. Every winning entry earns a Quill and Scroll Gold Key.
Quill and Scroll honors Sweepstakes Winners (First Place) in every category with a special framed certificate. All National Winners (Sweepstakes, Second Place, Third Place and Honorable Mention) receive award letters and are eligible to apply for Quill and Scroll Scholarships.
District adds half-day to calendar
Webster Groves School District schools will be in session on May 24, as a makeup day for the snow day on Feb. 28.
The state requires students to attend school 174 days and 1044 hours. WGSD scheduled 177 days of school for student attendance which would have allowed for a three-day leeway.
This year schools were closed four times due to inclement weather.
The May 24, makeup day will be a half-day and will dismiss at noon.
Parent Teacher Conferences coming
Parent-Teacher Conferences are March 12 and 13, from 4 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday and 12:50 – 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
Teachers are asked to keep conferences to a maximum of seven minutes.
Pre-scheduled conferences take place 4 – 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday with walkups available the rest of the evening and Wednesday.
