18TH annual Jim Schoemehl Run coming May 4
Area athletes will gather at the high school at 7:30 a.m. on May 4, to participate in the 18th annual Jim Schoemehl Run.
Marketing students have raised over $300,000 in the last 17 years to support the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association and sponsored families affected by the disease.
According to the Jim Schoemehl Run website, ALS is “ALS is a fatal, neurodegenerative disease that occurs when motor nerve cells in the nervous system malfunction and die.”
Senior Evelyn Trampe will be the commencement speaker at this year’s graduation ceremony on May 17.
Seniors select commencement speaker
Senior Evelyn Trampe was selected to be the Class of 2019 commencement speaker by fellow seniors.
Seniors Nicolaus Braun and Zoe Schultz were selected to be name readers at graduation, which will take place May 17, at 6:30 p.m.
Seniors Nakailah Shields-Robinson, Barrett Light and Ray McIntyre were selected as emcees for Senior Award Night, which will take place May 2, at 7 p.m.
Interact Club sells Ted Drewes to fund future service projects
Interact Club will sell Ted Drewes concretes for $4 as an April fundraiser during the week of March 17. The concretes will be available for both both first and second lunches.
The club will have four flavors: chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and cookie dough.
This annual fundraiser earns roughly $300 each year, which goes towards future service projects and about 25-50 percent of it ends up getting donated.
Last year the charity Interact Club chose to donate to was Operation Gratitude, whose mission is to show gratitude to the military and first responders through service projects.
“This year we plan to contribute to Operation Gratitude again,” Greg Heard, physics teacher and Interact Club sponsor, said.
