Three journalism students won Digital Gold Circle Awards from Columbia Scholastic Press Association for stories submitted between Oct. 11, 2014 and Oct. 13, 2015.
For Sports Commentary, junior Bennett Durando won first place for “Bennett from the Bleachers: Dominant First Half Sends Women’s Soccer to Final Four”and second place for “Bennett from the Bleachers: From First State Playoff Win to First State Championship Soccer Team Immortalizes Itself in WGHS History.”
For Breaking News, sophomore Riley Mulgardt earned a Certificate of Merit for
“Breaking News: School Bus Catches Fire.”
For Entertainment Reviews, sophomore Natalie Johnson earned a Certificate of Merit for “More Than ‘Only One’ Reason to Turn Off Radio: West McCartney Duo Confuses Fans.”
This year, 4,232 entries were submitted from colleges, universities and high schools. Of these 506 won either first, second or third place or Certificates of Merit.
