Stockley found not guilty of first-degree murder
Former police officer Jason Stockley was found not guilty Friday morning of first-degree murder of Anthony Lamar Smith in December 2011. St. Louis Circuit Judge Timothy Wilson said in his ruling that “This Court, in conscience, cannot say that the State… has proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant did not act in self-defense.”
4 alumni honored on Wall of Fame
Four Alumni will be honored this year to the Wall of Fame including Patty Cahill, Lawrence R. Deyton, Clarence J. Duvall Jr. and Alan C. Henderson.
This event will be at West Burroughs Country Club at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23.
The Wall of Fame was established in 1989 and recognizes Webster Groves Alumni for significant contributions to their chosen profession and/or voluntarism.
Also to be on the Wall of Fame, candidates must have graduated 15 years ago. In 1989, the faculty of Webster Groves High would nominate and select the alumni. Starting in 2005 an application was established for a better way of choosing the alumni.
5 seniors named National Merit semifinalists
Five WGHS seniors were among about 16,000 nationwide who were named National Merit semifinalists.
The Webster students are Andrew Downey,
Brendan Gillow, Keilyn Johnson, Jack Snelling and Ethan Whitaker.
The seniors, who took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, will have the opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships.
WGHS supports Hurricane Harvey recovery
There will be three fundraisers Sept. 5-8, at the high school to support victims of Hurricane Harvey.
Amnesty International will sell waffles on Sept. 6, History Club is collecting monetary donations Sept. 6 and Sept. 7, and art teacher Debbie Genovese is organizing a group for making blankets.
