Into the Woods, the fall musical, may not be the spotlight that junior Spencer Milford is used to, but he is excited for the show none the less.
For the last two years, most of Milford’s free time has been occupied by Broadway.
His freshman year, Milford sang in the classic, “Billy Eliot,” in Chicago. Milford played Tall Boy and understudied Michael. He also sang at the Fabulous Fox Theater in the same role.
In Webster’s production, Milford will play the protagonist, a baker, who is trying to conceive a child with his wife, played by senior Helen George. To do this, they must complete a quest to collect items from a “mash up of fairy tales.”
“I’ve seen the things that Mr. (Todd) Schaefer and Mrs. (Sarah) Romanowski have done in the past, and am excited to work with them,” said Milford.
“We’ve been waiting a while for this day,” said Romanowski, director. The drama department has been eager to get its hands on Milford but have had him slip through its fingers due to Broadway obligations.
Milford has high expectations for the show, saying, “It’s going to be an awesome show with an amazing cast, and I’m really excited to be a part of the Webster Groves drama department.”
About if he were more nervous acting in front of his friends than a larger crowd of strangers, Milford answered, “Absolutely.”
The show runs Nov. 8-10 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Tickets are $7 for students and $10 for adults.
