National Scholastic Press Association released its online critique of the 2025-26 WG Echo and awarded it a First Class rating.
Regarding coverage and content, the judge said, “Above is a rundown of what you have published and with such a small, but strong and mighty staff. You have been putting out a good amount of content about your school and other news.”
The judge added, “I really enjoyed the video and podcast elements of your storytelling. I could really hear (senior) Margaret’s (Korte) voice and (freshman) Chase (Hoskins) on the video roundups of the news. Most of the stories (Ice Protest – Basketball Championships) had a good variety of student quotes and professional sources (coaches/experts) quoted in the stories. They also provided factual news of the protest or events or the sporting events.”
In the summary, the judge said, “Once again it was a pleasure viewing your site and you all should be very proud of the work you have done. The staff is a model of quality journalism in the news and sports section, while providing a voice for student opinions in the opinion section.”
The judge noted the “Excellent use of Instagram photo stories – An interactive poll on the website – Updates on alumni reporting out in the real world – sharing of stories and videos on Facebook and YouTube – Letter to the editor on the ABOUT page.”
Also the judge commended the breaking news presented on the site. “Great work covering the ICE protest and a wide variety of school events! From theater to b ball awards to school closures your team has covered a wide variety of breaking or recent news events.”
Regarding interactive media and frequency, the judge said, “Excellent work developing video and podcasts to go along with your written stories and text! I enjoyed the Voices of Webster with ghost stories, librarians, and Margaret Korte’s audio version of the Center for Civic Engagement.”
