Webster Esports team has won State in the past three seasons and began its spring season on Feb. 9.

The start of the season “will last about six-eight weeks before sectional playoffs,” Coach Collin Todd said.

The team has high hopes for success based on its past performances.

“We won the State championship title for Class 2 in Super Smash Brothers Ultimate Solos last season, marking three seasons in a row where we have won the State title,” Todd said.

The season is expected to have a strong start in February, when it will also compete in a tournament against other high schools.

Along with competing against other high school teams, the team plans to incorporate outside tournaments into its schedule for more experience.

“We are working on finding tournaments and opportunities outside of school events to gain more authentic experience in competition,” Todd Said.

Senior Jack Bub, the team’s first esports State champion, has “received a scholarship to Michigan State University to play on their esports team,” Todd said.

“Our esports team has been performing very competitively,” Todd said.
