National Art Honor Society (N.A.S.H.) is coming back to Webster Groves High School. On Jan. 28, at 8 a.m. the group will be working to ratify the constitution and elect officers.
They meet every first and third Thursday of the month at 8 a.m. in room 196. In order to join, students must be enrolled in an art course during the year and have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and Art GPA of 3.5. Also each member must attend meetings regularly and complete five hours of community service per semester.
Members will do service projects which highlight the artwork of the students in the school and community. It is a leadership group that will organize service projects and activities and provide opportunities for them to advocate and be involved in the arts community. Webster Groves High School already has an art club, but N.A.H.S. (National Art Honor Society) is a nationally affiliated leadership and service club.
It requires a sponsor who holds a professional membership to the National Art Educators Association (N.A.E.A.). There are dues ($5 per year), officers and special recognition (like rainbow cords for graduation) for members who exemplify leadership and excellence in the fine arts. The reason that this is becoming a thing now is because it wasn’t run for a while after interest leveled off. Jocelyn Reiss and the students are re-establishing the Webster Groves chapter.
Jocelyn Reiss is the sponsor, and to sign up students can either attend the meeting on Jan. 28, or email her, Reiss.jocelyn@wgmail.org. Some students that are already inducted into the chapter are Anna Barr, senior, Claire McCarthy, senior, Lili Gregov, senior, Oriana Foster, senior, and Norah Rohlfing, junior. There is no minimum or maximum number of people who can join.
