News Brief: Church turns plastic bags into sleeping mats for homeless

Custodian Loretta Brown is collecting used plastic grocery bags to make sleeping mats for the homeless.

Custodian Loretta Brown has invited WGHS students and staff to donate their used plastic grocery bags so that she and members of her church, Keys to Life Tabernacle Christian Church, can make sleeping mats for the homeless.

In addition to the mats, the church makes pillows and collects food to take to the homeless once a month.

It takes about 700 bags to make a single mat.

The church also has a pantry which provides food at 4229 N Newstead Ave. from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
