Band raises money with  mattress sale

To raise funds, the band will conduct its sixth annual mattress sale 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 19, in Roberts Gym.

Name brands like Simmons Beautyrest will be displayed for a savings of up to 50% off retail showroom prices, according to the WG Bands Facebook page.

Past proceeds have allowed for the purchase of bassoon, marching xylophone and conga heads as well as maintenance and service of aging instruments.

Scholar Bowl takes first

Webster’s Scholar Bowl Team placed first in the Eureka Invitational Tournament on Oct. 12.

Ten teams competed in a series of academic questions.

Senior Ethan Weihl also placed first individually, and earned a medal.

“The team worked really hard and we were able to come out on top,” Weihl said.

The team is coached by Julie Burchett.

This is the first time Scholar Bowl has won this tournament, and the highest the team has placed in a varsity tournament since 2017, when the team won third place in the DeSoto Invitational Tournament.

 

Echo photographers earn recognition

Two Echo staffers earned recognition for photos they took last year and this.

Graduate Ellie Marshall earned a Columbia Scholastic Press Association Gold Circle Certificate of Merit for her Single Sports Photo “Senior captain Mason Schultz runs to the ball at the State finals soccer game.”

Also junior editor Jaden Fields won second place in Missouri Scholastic Press Association’s September Photo of the Month for one of her photos of the climate change protest.
