As students walk through the library to cut over into the lunchroom, a wide-smiling Lamar Fitzgerald settles in behind the counter, waiting for any students who might need help.

Fitzgerald started as a substitute teacher last year, but has now transitioned to being a library aide. Working here for only two years, his history with this school runs deeper than anyone might suspect. Fitzgerald is a 1989 graduate and former concert choir singer, thespian, peer counselor and business manager of the ECHO.

After WGHS, Fitzgerald went on to study at Missouri Baptist and then finished at Webster University with a degree in choral conducting. Fitzgerald is now the music director at Webster United Methodist Church, where he leads the adult Chancel Choir.

From student to faculty, Fitzgerald can understand the experiences of students here.

About what advice he would give to this year’s seniors, Fitzgerald said, “Enjoy the silly, insignificant things. Take advantage because your life is going to be crazy next year.”
