What is believed to have been a single-car accident caused damage to the First United Methodist Church on Bompart Avenue tonight at about 8 p.m.
Damage included derailing of walkway rails leading a church entrance, destruction of small garden area near entrance.
WGHS music teacher and nearby resident Jill Young called police. She said she “heard the most horrible sound, screeching tires and then a loud crash.”
Young’s husband said the driver was a male about 16-17 years old and was bleeding from his head but able to talk.
It is unclear whether the driver was a WGHS student or not.
