Junior Tyler Lawson is a first-year cross country runner, and he’s the fastest runner at the school.

“I just did cross country this year because I wasn’t going to be a starter in football. I’m really glad I did, because it’s been a good run,” Lawson said.

Lawson was the first Webster runner ever to break 16 minutes, with his final time being 15:59 at the Class Four, District Three meet on Oct. 26. The top time last year was then-senior Dillon Williams with a time of 16:15. Lawson placed second in that race, one second behind the leader.

Lawson said, “I go hard at practice every day. I just put it all in and see what happens. At the end of the meets, I feel tired, dead, and everything hurts.”

At the sectional meet, Lawson got a time of 16:24 on the hilly Blackburn Park course. He placed first in the Sectional to help his team make the State meet.

“What I really like about cross country is just the different types of people. The people here are sort of weird but really funny and fun to be around,” Lawson said.
