Harry Potter, the book and movie phenomenon is nearing its end. With the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part one, the directors show that this finale will be historic.
The Deathly Hallows, directed by David Yates, who also directed the two previous Harry Potter films, was released Nov. 19. This PG-13 Warner Bros. Picture stars the same actors we’ve grown to love: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint.
In case you’ve been living under a rock, this story takes place in a world full of magic and mystery, where you follow the life of a boy named Harry Potter. Harry, played by Radcliffe, is just a boy living under the staircase at his aunt and uncle’s home until he turns 11, when he discovers he is a wizard and is sent off to Hogwarts, where he meets hundreds of other wizards and starts his new life.
Seven years have passed, and Harry’s world has become a much darker place. Voldemort is taking over, and the once safe place of Hogwarts has become compromised. Harry and Hermione, played by Watson, have gone on the road looking for horcruxs, pieces of Voldemort’s soul to destroy.
With every movie, the scenery gets darker, the sky is cloudier, and Radcliffe looks even gaunter. The characters in the series have grown with us, going through some of the same (though a bit more magical) problems we have. J.K. Rowling has completely succeeded in created deep, three dimensional characters with whom the reader truly feels a connection with.
That being said, I feel like these characters have been excellently adapted into the movie. The actors picked years ago still hold up to the standards and have grown just like we thought the young, eleven year old characters in the book would. Not only Radcliffe, Watson, and Grint but everyone else who has had a part in these films has done a magnificent job, staying true to what the fans expected.
This seventh movie is a must see, and at 146 minutes it’s not overbearingly long. True Potter fans have already seen this, but even if you’re not particular to the series, it is still an excellent film, better than the rest. This film doesn’t just meet expectations, it exceeds them.
